Two Powerful Questions to Drive Growth and Commitment

How intentional are you about the questions you ask yourself or others you’re trying to lead and support in your life?

The right questions have the power to unlock awareness, drive growth, and build deeper commitment to everything you’re trying to accomplish. Today, I want to share two transformative questions that can make all the difference in your personal and professional development.

Before diving into these two powerful questions, here’s a short video that gives you an immediate perspective on how they can unlock deeper growth and commitment:

Now that you’ve seen it in action, let’s unpack each question and see how you can apply them in your life.

Question #1: “How Am I Limiting Myself?”

This powerful question came from my dear friend and marketing video editor, Chris West. It’s simple, yet profound in its ability to create breakthrough moments.

I’ve made this question a daily practice—literally putting it in my calendar every morning for contemplation. While I’ll admit I don’t contemplate it every single day, when I do engage with it, the results are remarkable. It consistently opens up my view to where I might be holding myself back.

More often than not, the answer reveals some self-limiting belief, pattern, or habit I’ve unconsciously slipped into.

Awareness is the first step to your next summit.

Asking the right question can drive that crucial awareness that changes everything.

Putting It Into Practice

Consider adding this question to your own daily routine. Better yet, if you’re coaching, mentoring, or leading others, try asking them: “Where might you be limiting yourself?”

Remember the power of asking versus telling. As leaders, we often default to “tell them, tell them, tell them.” But when we ask the right questions, we unlock something far more powerful—self-discovery and genuine commitment.

Question #2: “What Uncomfortable Opportunity Is Presenting Today?”

This question comes directly from my “Reaching Your Next Summit” planner and momentum journal workbook. It’s designed to be intentionally uncomfortable because that’s where growth lives.

This question helps you direct your focus and awareness internally to where you may be resisting growth. Perhaps there’s:

  • A difficult meeting you’ve been avoiding
  • A presentation that makes you nervous
  • A phone call you need to make but keep putting off
  • An opportunity you’re dreading

Here’s what I’ve learned: those moments of resistance are often our greatest opportunities for growth and deeper commitment to something we really need to do.

Team Application

This question becomes even more powerful in team settings. Whether you’re conducting one-on-ones or working with your entire team, asking “What uncomfortable opportunities are presenting to us today?” can unlock collective growth and push your team toward breakthrough moments.

The Power of Intentional Questions

These two questions—”How am I limiting myself?” and “What uncomfortable opportunity is presenting today?”—are designed to do more than just prompt reflection. They’re tools for:

  • Driving self-awareness in areas where we might have blind spots
  • Building genuine commitment to growth and change
  • Creating breakthrough moments that lead to our next summit
  • Fostering deeper leadership in ourselves and others

The beauty of great questions is their simplicity. They don’t require complex frameworks or extensive training. They just require the courage to ask them—and the commitment to honestly engage with the answers.

Your Next Step

I challenge you to experiment with these questions this week. Pick one (or both) and integrate them into your daily routine. See what awareness emerges. Notice where you discover opportunities for growth.

And if you’re leading others, don’t just keep these questions to yourself. Share them. Ask them. Create space for the kind of reflection that drives real transformation.

Remember: the right question at the right time can be the catalyst for reaching your next summit.

What uncomfortable opportunity is presenting itself to you today? How might you be limiting yourself?
